  • Cognition in the Digital Age: Enhancement or Overload?

To answer the questions below, use the required resources as well as your own life experiences. Your initial post should be a minimum of 200 words. When you describe ideas that are not your own, be sure to paraphrase and not use direct quotations.

Knowing what we do now about the true capacity of the human mind, or a better estimate of what it can do, have we built a world and a society that is beneficial to cognition or not?

For your initial post, you can consider the following questions to help you answer this question:

    • Are Google and social media good for us? Are the distractions that these sites present good, or do they overtax our attention? Is the extension to cognition offered by these technologies worth it, relative to any detrimental effects to cognition?
    • What role may deep fakes play in cognition, with their ability to fool our perception, memory, and/or decision making? Why is this significant? What implications might this have for society, the entertainment industry, and the political sphere?
    • When you move away from the individual and move into groups, how do cognitive abilities interact to create social currents like human rights, nationalism, and social justice, for example?
    • How does the concept of cognition in the modern world apply to at least one of the following programmatic course themes?
      • Self-care
      • Social justice
      • Emotional intelligence (EI)
      • Career connections
      • Ethics
  • Six Domains of Healthcare Quality” in the Reading and Resources section. Of the six, identify the one that you would think would be the most beneficial to the organization as a whole, and explain your rationale.

    DISCUSSION 1 (2PARAGRAPH)

Read the article “Six Domains of Healthcare Quality” in the Reading and Resources section. Of the six, identify the one that you would think would be the most beneficial to the organization as a whole, and explain your rationale. UPLOADED BELOW

    DISCUSSION 2 (2 PARAGRAPH)

When it comes to the reporting of medical errors, discuss the reasons why medical professionals may not provide accurate data. As a secondary component of this discussion question, discuss how leaders might eradicate a culture of shame and blame.

    Six Domains of Healthcare Quality

A handful of analytic frameworks for quality assessment have guided measure development initiatives in the public and private sectors. One of the most influential is the framework put forth by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), which includes the following six aims for the healthcare system. [1]

    · Safe: Avoiding harm to patients from the care that is intended to help them.

    · Effective: Providing services based on scientific knowledge to all who could benefit and refraining from providing services to those not likely to benefit (avoiding underuse and misuse, respectively).

    · Patient-centered: Providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions.

    · Timely: Reducing waits and sometimes harmful delays for both those who receive and those who give care.

    · Efficient: Avoiding waste, including waste of equipment, supplies, ideas, and energy.

    · Equitable: Providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as geographic location and socioeconomic status.

Existing measures address some domains more extensively than others. The vast majority of measures assess effectiveness and safety. Some capture timeliness and patient-centeredness. Fewer measures focus on efficiency and equity of care, but attention to those domains has been growing. [2]

Frameworks like the IOM domains also make it easier for consumers to grasp the meaning and relevance of quality measures. Studies have shown that providing consumers with a framework for understanding quality helps them value a broader range of quality indicators. For example, when consumers are given a brief, understandable explanation of safe, effective, and patient-centered care, they view all three categories as important. Further, when measures are grouped into user-friendly versions of those three IOM domains, consumers can see the meaning of the measures more clearly and understand how they relate to their own concerns about their care. [3]

  • Workers’ Compensation: Balancing Protection and Cost for Employers and Employees

    DB V

Do some research on workers’ compensation in your state (Georgia), or consider the information provided to you in the suggested resources for the State of Alabama. What do you see as the benefits and drawbacks of workers’ compensation to employers and employees? Also, feel free to share any stories you might have related to workers’ compensation cases with which you are familiar.

    Response 1: Andrea Kelly

    Top of Form

According to the Alabama Department of Labor, workers’ compensation is designed to provide medical care and partial wage replacement to employees who are injured on the job. As an international student, I do not know much about the U.S. system, but from what I understand, it is meant to protect both employees and employers.

For employees, one major benefit is that they can receive support quickly without having to prove fault. This makes it easier to access medical treatment and some income while recovering. However, a drawback is that the benefits are limited, and employees usually cannot sue their employer, even if the injury was caused by negligence.

For employers, workers’ compensation helps reduce the risk of lawsuits and provides a clear process for handling workplace injuries. However, it can be costly, especially if there are many claims, and there is always a concern about fraudulent cases.

Overall, in places like Alabama, the system seems to balance both sides, even though it may not fully meet everyone’s expectations.

    Response 2: Travis Vandaveer

    Top of Form

Texas stands alone among U.S. states when it comes to workers’ compensation. Unlike Alabama and nearly every other state, Texas is the only state where workers’ compensation insurance is completely voluntary for private employers. This “opt-out” system, sometimes called nonsubscriber status, has been in place since 1913 and creates a very different landscape for both employers and employees here compared to the rest of the country. As of 2022, roughly 25% of private-sector employers in Texas were nonsubscribers, though other sources put that figure closer to 28 percent, meaning nearly 20 percent of Texas’s private workforce clocks in without the benefit of a workers’ comp safety net.

From an emergency management perspective, the nonsubscriber issue creates interesting wrinkles during large-scale incidents. When a chemical release, fire, or accident occurs at a Texas facility, first responders may be working a scene where some of the injured workforce has workers’ comp coverage and some doesn’t. That affects downstream coordination with occupational medicine providers, return-to-work planning, and the legal exposure every entity involved in response and recovery. We control this through good contractor management and vetting at our site, but you must always be cautious of various subcontractors that might float through during turnaround and outages. Texas can still be the “wild west.”

Due: Friday, 24 April 2026, 11:59 PM NZT

This report builds on your first report (5Cs Analysis) and requires you to conduct a Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning (STP) analysis for your product idea.

No extensions will be given if you regret your initial product choice.

Physical products are preferable, but you may also choose to market an intangible product (e.g., an app or technology) or a service.

Please submit your report (Microsoft Word Document or pdf) through Moodle, under “WK08 Assignment 2: STP Report – 25%” by Friday, 24 April at 11:59pm NZT.

Note: Students who fail to submit their report to Moodle on time will be penalised as per the lateness penalty indicated on the paper outline.
